Our story
Brightening shouldn't cost you your moisture.
The founding of Oryza Koji began with a frustration most people with hyperpigmentation know well.
The problem with brightening soaps
Brightening soaps work. That's never been the question. The question is what they take from you in the process.
The dryness. The tightness after rinsing. The feeling that your skin is being treated rather than cared for. These aren't side effects people imagine — they're the predictable result of formulas that prioritize actives over everything else.
A different starting point
We started with fermented rice water — not as a marketing ingredient, but as a structural one. Rice water has been used across East and Southeast Asia for generations precisely because it softens, hydrates, and supports skin without disrupting it.
From there, we built a brightening formula around it. Kojic acid — naturally derived from rice fermentation — became the hero active. Niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and licorice root extract were added not just for their brightening properties, but for how they work together to keep the skin barrier intact.
What we set out to make
Oryza Koji is a bar soap that takes hyperpigmentation seriously — without treating moisture as an afterthought. It's for people who've tried the brightening options and found themselves choosing between results and comfort.
You shouldn't have to choose.
